Here is the first of many Special Effects tests. This is a fire and lighting experiment. One of the things I am considering is to have Jacko carry a torch in the scene. He will most likely set it down when he starts reciting the poem. I sort of like the idea of him placing it into a wrought iron holder, on one of the crypts, that would have originally been intended to hold a bouquet of flowers. The flames in the test were created by mapping a series of photos of a candle flame onto single sided polygons (think a simple card with a cut out of a flame). This polygon was duplicated four more times in a circle. If you looked at it from the top it would look a bit like an asterisk. Lights were then added to create the glow. You cant really see it in this version but there are some very small embers coming out of the top of the torch. These will be easier to see when I render full size versions of the scene. To cut down on the time it takes to create these type of tests, this film clip was rendered out at 15 frames per second instead of the usual 30 frames. This also cuts the size of the file in half and makes for a more efficient download. I will be doing this a lot more as I start testing more complex scenes. "A
